Cherubino Chardonnay

Cherubino Ovale Caves Road Chardonnay 2024

This wine was given to me by a friend who wanted my opinion.  He was completely rapt about the first bottle that he had drunk and had mixed feelings when he drank another bottle several weeks later.

This wine gave me aromas of sweet lemon, dough, brioche, lees, mandarin, orange zest, white floral and a touch of oak.  There was definitely oak on the first sip but it was well integrated.  Then came the lees.  Gently wafting in, but not in a hurry, were the yellow grapefruit and lemon along with orange zest.

As it warmed up, the brioche and oak combined to be the dominant flavours with the fruit, in particular mandarin and yellow grapefruit, in the background.  White peach flavours appeared up when the wine had further warmed up.

This wine was all about texture and definitely a Margaret River-styled Chardonnay.
