Christmas is Champagne - Part2

My contribution to the family Christmas events is to bring the Champagne.  I normally select champagne that is around AUD 100 or less.  One of my go-to Champagnes, which always goes down a treat, is Louis Roderer Collection NV.  This year is was Collection 246.

We cracked upon a bottle at Christmas lunch with relish.  The nose initially had a dough and lees aroma, followed by lemon and white blossom.  On the palate the first flavour that stood out was slightly underripe white peach, a touch of mandarin and pink grapefruit.  Then came the doughy lees taste and nectarine.  As the champagne warmed up nectarine was the dominant flavour on the finish.

What impressed me was that the fine bubbles that kept on fizzing in my mouth for a good 20 seconds after a sip.

This champagne matched fabulously with cold turkey, cold ham and the Christmas salads.  It will get another outing at next year’s family Christmas.

Rating:  Delish        Price: AUD 110
