Give me Gewurztraminer

Domaine Weinbach’s 2022 “Les Treilles du Loup”

There are some pairings that just work - for me, Gewurtztraminer and Asian cuisine is one of them. So, when I headed to one of my favourite Chinese dumpling spots, I brought along a bottle of Domaine Weinbach’s 2022 “Les Treilles du Loup”.

The wine immediately impressed with its aromatic intensity. The bouquet was highly expressive, offering concentrated notes of lychee, rose petal and ginger. On the palate, those exotic flavours expanded to include mandarin, orange zest, nectarine, pink peony, blue slate and a subtle dried herb lift. The texture was opulent - mouthcoating and rich - yet the wine retained balance thanks to acidity that prevented it from being cloying.

My friend, who swore only to have one glass of wine, quickly abandoned that plan. The only ‘problem’? The wine was so powerful and expressive that it upstaged the food. Next time I will be pairing it with dishes that have even bolder flavours.

Would I drink it again? Without hestitation - I have another bottle stashed away.

Domaine Weinbach is one of Alsace’s most revered producers and this wine shows exactly why.
